Guangzhou-China,September 10, 2026 – On September 5, the Asia-Pacific Media Forum was held in Shenzhen as a major event of the 2026 APEC “China Year”. Under the theme of “Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action”, the forum brought together more than 400 representatives from over 40 countries and regions, as well as UN agencies and international organizations.

Ahead of the main forum, participants embarked on three field routes — the Guangzhou-Foshan route, the Shenzhen-Dongguan route, and the Zhuhai-Zhongshan route — to experience Guangdong’s high-quality development firsthand.

During the visits, delegates spoke highly of the openness, cooperative spirit and innovative development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Cristina Christodulo, Community Outreach Manager at the APEC Secretariat, noted that her key takeaway from the forum was people-to-people engagement, as bringing people face to face builds trust, which is the foundation of any relationship, and that is exactly what APEC is doing.

According to Daryl Guppy, a renowned Australian financial analyst and media commentator, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area drives integrated development by harmonizing regulations and market access, providing a model for APEC to promote economic integration across the region.

Meanwhile, the Greater Bay Area’s technological prowess and its international, livable environment also left a strong impression on the international media delegates.

Impressed with Guangdong’s deep integration of smart technology into its work systems, Phonesavanh Thikeo, Director General and Editor-in-Chief of Vientiane Times in Laos, expressed the hope that such advanced technologies could be introduced to ASEAN countries and beyond. Rinith Taing, Resident Editor of Khmer Times in Cambodia, marveled at China’s effective application of AI technology across its economy, productivity, and people’s daily lives. Viewing Guangdong as a mix of cutting-edge technology and modern industries, Muhammad Zahir Shah, Director News at Bol TV in Pakistan, noted that it is one of China’s most developed provinces in manufacturing, IT, high-tech and industrial sectors. Yasiru Ranaraja, Founding Director of the Belt and Road Initiative Sri Lanka (BRISL), praised Guangzhou as a beautiful and friendly city that not only serves as a strong manufacturing base but also attracts many international experts to live and work there.

Through the lenses and reports of Asia-Pacific media representatives, a Guangdong defined by industrial strength, technological innovation and openness is being clearly presented to the world.
