What Lessons Should Men In Blue Learn From World Cup Tournament for Future Betterment?

india men in blueNew Delhi, Friday, April 3 – Everyone turns a good adviser whenever his home team loses against the rivals in crucial matches. He considers giving his piece of advice to the players extremely valuable. This isn’t going to change even this time. Nothing to get surprised herein!

As like any other Indian cricket fans, India defeat at the hands of Australia took me by surprise. The day kicked off with lots of prayers given that it was a keen wish may the Men in Blue inch closer to their dream of bringing the trophy back. And, they were almost there but losing a toss and somewhat low energy level among the players after Aussies gave them a hint of sheer surprise by sending the ball crossing the boundary line whenever possible hit the final nail in the coffin.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, a man with immense brilliance, won maximum number of matches when the toss was won. So, was it a bad luck for all Indians to lose toss on the day of semi-finals against the strong Australia or losing the self belief at a time when needed most! Perhaps it was a mix of both the two. Almost each cricket lover knew the host could have tasted another defeat from India as they did in the World Cup 2011 had the coin during toss did not fell in favor of Australian skipper Michael Clarke.

But this doesn’t mean Australia logged  victory on the basis of luck. Despite getting an early jolt after electing to bat first, the top and middle order batsmen added as many as runs possible in the team’s total. Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney, was jam-packed as the nail-biting contest was witnessed by more than 93,000 people, which is record-breaking. It was just Umesh Yadav who gave timely breakthroughs, which India failed to utilize later on. Ravichandran Ashwin showed great improvement as a bowler throughout the lately concluded World Cup. The way he bowled showed how ardent was he to contribute in team’s victory. Despite the fact that he did not get many wickets in his pocket, the talented Ashwin certainly wasn’t an expensive bowler. The 28-year-old right-arm off-break bowler did his bit with incredible deliveries but couldn’t demonstrate his batting skills. The world knows he is really good at it.

All Indian hopes were crushed badly when the host inflicted a 95-run defeat on Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team India. Body language of a few Indian players was such that it gave viewers a slight indication that they might not achieve 328 runs in 50 overs that wasn’t impossible at all, especially when most of the youngsters got the talent to do this.  Mohit Sharma and Vice Captain Virat Kohli were missing the edge. Sharma’s bowling attack helped opposite team to accumulate runs faster. Kohli was caught in camera only for a few times. This is not commonly seen when the 26-year-old is present in the field, doing his job perfectly. His aggression and determination to put in squad’s efforts were missing.

Lack of momentum probably made India fly back home regardless of the fact that they deserved to be in the grand finale, which was again won by the Aussies, who were on cloud nine to attain the winner’s trophy for fifth time. It is always good to discover a new you rather than following any one. Self assessment and motivation impart huge role in somebody’s success. However, there is nothing wrong to notice how members of the rival group perform with or without pressure.  Steven Smith was not a big name prior to India vs. Australia Test match series, Tri series held in January and, of course, the WC.

Every time he came on the crease, he ensured bowlers will have to earn his wicket since he was never seen throwing it often, which is mostly seen in Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma whenever they face a bit trouble in gathering runs. The opening duo gave a good start and could have been hero of the semis had they knew the importance of spending more time on the 22 yards pitch. Kohli’s wicket at 1 put unwanted stress on India, to which they succumbed as the match progressed. Audience blamed his girlfriend Anushka Sharma for his poor show. But was this really justified? Why families, girlfriends and wives should be blamed when one is not able to erase pressure by performing. If cricketers should be advised to improve, then same is expected from viewers as well who lose their cool as soon as the team faces defeat.

Suresh Raina and Ajinkya Rahane need to understand the magnitude of keeping their wickets safe. Why Dhoni did not pick Ambati Rayudu over Ravindra Jadeja, who was impressive on bowling and fielding side, but did not grab eyeballs for his batting. He went with the same combination which brought 7 victories for India during league and knockout stages. His weird decisions made many to debate but Captain Cool left no stone unturned to take India close to the target whenever required. Story was a bit different during India’s last appearance in 2015 cricket carnival for the reason that he was alone to hit biggies. All in all, Indian team entertained cricket fans to a great extent for one-and-a-half months and none can nullify it. However, scope of improvement always remains. They need some rest from cricket but should opt for enthusiastic attitude to hone skills. Only then it is possible to let India see success in all contests.
